Queens, New York City – In a significant breakthrough, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) has taken a person of interest into custody regarding a series of unprovoked stabbings in Queens. Although the identity of the suspect remains undisclosed, law enforcement officials are prioritizing the investigation. Over the course of nine days, five individuals were attacked with a hunting knife in separate incidents within the Jamaica neighborhood. Notably, three assaults occurred within a mere 30-minute interval on a single day.

A Surge in Unsettling Attacks

On January 8th, around 6:20 p.m. ET, a 61-year-old man was stabbed in the back. Thankfully, he was promptly taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and is now in stable condition. In another incident, a 34-year-old woman was targeted from behind and stabbed on the right side of her torso while walking home after midnight. Luckily, she managed to escape on foot and was also treated at a hospital, where she remains stable.

On the following day, between 7:29 a.m. and 8 a.m., three more male victims, aged 74, 41, and 36, were assaulted in separate instances. Two of the victims endured back stabbings, while the third was stabbed in the abdomen. All three received medical attention at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and are currently in stable condition. According to authorities, the most recent victim engaged in an argument over a seat on an MTA bus before disembarking with the attacker and subsequently falling victim to the assault. Additionally, law enforcement officials are investigating a possible sixth stabbing that occurred on a subway train.

Seeking Assistance from the Public

The NYPD is actively seeking information on the whereabouts of the person of interest involved in these attacks. Descriptions provided indicate that the suspect stands at approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall, and was last seen wearing a dark gray jacket, black pants, black shoes, and a blue mask. To engage the public’s support, the department has launched a campaign encouraging individuals to come forward with any tips or relevant information regarding the case. An incentive of $3,500 is being offered as a reward for valuable leads.
