Emmy and BAFTA nominee, Dominique Fishback, is set to be honored with the prestigious Culture Certified award at The Creative Collective’s inaugural Creative Class celebration.
Recognizing Cultural Impact
The Culture Certified award aims to acknowledge both established and emerging Black talent whose contributions significantly shape and influence cultural landscapes. Presented by the Create Collective (CCNYC) in partnership with Prime Video’s Culture Rated initiative, the award champions Black creatives, perspectives, and communities across various platforms, including social media, Prime Video, and in-person events like CultureCon.
A Year of Achievements
This recognition is the latest accolade for Fishback, who experienced a breakout year in 2023. She garnered critical acclaim for her compelling portrayal of Dre in the Prime Video series “Swarm,” earning her first Emmy nomination. Fishback’s transformative performances in “Swarm” also garnered nods from the Indie Spirit Awards, Gotham Awards, the NAACP Image Awards, and more. In addition, Fishback starred in the global adventure film “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” and delivered a powerful portrayal of Black Panther party activist Deborah Johnson in the Academy Award-nominated film “Judas and the Black Messiah,” alongside Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield.
A Multifaceted Talent
Aside from her acting achievements, Fishback is also a skilled spoken word poet and playwright. Her senior thesis at Pace University, titled “Subverted,” explored Black identity and existence within an unequal system. Variety exclusively announced that Fishback will collaborate with Oscar winner Jamie Foxx to adapt her one-woman show, “Subverted,” into a new special. Fishback will not only play more than 20 characters in the show but will also serve as executive producer alongside Foxx and his producing partner Datari Turner.
Celebrating Black Culture-Shifters
The Creative Class celebration, taking place on February 28th in New York, will conclude Black History Month. This event is a tribute to Black culture-shifters across various disciplines, such as tech, social good, art, entertainment, and fashion. These individuals are actively shaping culture, advocating for their communities, and building their vision from the ground up. The 2024 cohort includes remarkable talents like Grammy-winning singer and “Bel-Air” star Coco Jones, Kara Young (“I’m A Virgo”), Jean Elie (“Insecure”), Jocelyn Bioh (“Jaja’s African Hair Braiding”), and Crystal Renee (“Sistas,” “Zatima”).
A Candid Conversation
