In a recent repeat episode of the long-running BBC One program, a member of the public brought in a wine glass that her father had purchased for a mere 50p. Little did she know that this seemingly ordinary glass held incredible value. The guest was left absolutely speechless when an expert at the Eden Project in Cornwall revealed the true worth of her glass.

The woman, who chose to remain anonymous, recounted the story of how her father came across the glass on a bric-a-brac stall. The owner had initially asked for a meager 10p, but her father, recognizing the potential beauty of the glass, generously offered 50p instead. And it turns out, he made an exceptional investment!
Antiques expert Andy McConnell, clearly thrilled by the piece, jokingly asked, “Oh, I really like it, can I have it for a quid?” But then he went on to reveal the fascinating history and origins of the glass.
Andy explained that the glass, known as a “heavy baluster,” contained an impressive 30 percent lead. He further revealed that it dated back to the years following George Ravenscroft’s invention of lead crystal in 1676. This meant that the glass was over 300 years old, dating it to around 1705-1710.

To the guest’s astonishment, Andy valued the glass at an incredible £2,000! The woman could hardly believe her ears and instinctively covered her mouth in sheer disbelief. This unexpected windfall left her visibly shaking with excitement.
As the segment concluded, Andy playfully suggested, “Have a drink out of it tonight for Dad.” What a delightful way to honor the memory of her father while enjoying the newfound appreciation for this remarkable piece.
