Cher’s request for legal conservatorship over her son’s finances was met with initial opposition from the court. However, a new hearing has been scheduled to further address the matter. Last week, the acclaimed singer and actor filed a petition to assume control of Elijah Blue Allman’s finances. Cher expressed concerns about her son’s struggles with addiction and mental health, which she believed rendered him incapable of managing his money safely.
Elijah Blue Allman, aged 47, receives funds from a trust established by his late father, musician Gregg Allman. Cher’s attorney, Gabrielle Vidal, stressed the urgency of the situation during the hearing, describing the establishment of a conservatorship as a matter of life and death. Nevertheless, Judge Jessica A. Uzcategui ruled that Cher’s legal team had not provided the necessary documentation to give Allman and his lawyers sufficient time to present their case. The court scheduled a follow-up hearing for January 29.
During the hearing, Uzcategui pointed out that Cher’s attorneys had been hesitant to share certain materials with Allman’s legal team when contacted the previous day. Cher’s lawyers cited confidentiality concerns and instead shared the documents with the court-appointed lawyer representing Allman. This lack of cooperation played a significant role in Uzcategui’s decision.
In a court filing prior to the hearing, Allman argued against the need for a conservatorship. He acknowledged his struggles with addiction and impulsive spending but emphasized that he is presently under the care of a doctor, has remained sober for over three months, attends Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, and is willing to undergo regular drug testing. Allman’s filing stated that while he appreciates his mother’s love and support, he does not require her unsolicited assistance at this time.
During the proceedings, Allman was present in court but only briefly responded to the judge’s inquiries. His legal team declined to comment after the hearing. Cher, on the other hand, did not attend, and her attorneys have not yet responded to requests for comment.
