Paula Weinstein, the renowned producer behind films like “The Perfect Storm,” “Analyze This,” “The Fabulous Baker Boys,” and “Blood Diamond,” as well as the former chief content officer at Tribeca Enterprises, passed away on Monday in New York. She was 78.

A Masterful Producer and a Force of Nature

Paula Weinstein’s daughter, Hannah Rosenberg, expressed her sorrow, stating, “The world is a lesser place without my mother. She was a masterful producer and a force of nature for the things she believed in.” Weinstein’s illustrious career spanned numerous projects, and she was a champion for social justice causes.

Shattering Barriers, Lifting Others

Weinstein broke barriers in Hollywood and was always dedicated to lifting up other women in the industry. As a testament to her legacy, Rosenberg adds, “If you’d like to honor her, please stop what you are doing and turn your attention toward reelecting President Biden and making sure Democrats win down the ballot so we can be sure Democracy survives in America and around the world.”

A Multi-Talented Producer

Aside from her work in film, Weinstein was also an executive producer on the hit show “Grace and Frankie” and earned two primetime Emmys for producing TV movies “Truman” and “Recount.” In September 2023, she left Tribeca Enterprises to focus on her political causes.

A Legacy of Memorable Films

As the co-founder of Spring Creek Prods., Weinstein produced a string of successful films, including “Fearless,” “Flesh and Bone,” “This Is Where I Leave You,” “Too Big to Fail,” “The Company Men,” “The Astronaut Farmer,” and “Monster-in-Law.” Her late husband, Mark Rosenberg, shared her passion for filmmaking and tragically passed away on the set of “Flesh and Bone” in 1992.

A Trailblazer in the Industry

Weinstein’s impressive career also included positions as the president of United Artists, the executive vice president at Fox, and the vice president at Warner Bros. Her mother, Hannah Weinstein, moved the family to London in the 1950s and produced television projects that provided employment opportunities to blacklisted Americans.

Honors and Contributions

Weinstein’s contributions to the entertainment industry were recognized with several prestigious awards, including two Crystal Awards from Women in Film, the Hall of Fame Award from Variety, the National Urban League Citizen Award, and the Bill of Rights Award from the Southern California Chapter of the ACLU. She was also a founding member of the Hollywood Women’s Political Committee, which raised millions of dollars for Democratic candidates over the course of two decades. Additionally, she served as a former board member of the ACLU of Southern California.
