The Albuquerque Police Department is currently reeling from a federal investigation that has resulted in multiple officers being placed on administrative leave. Additionally, the New Mexico District Attorney’s office has dismissed over 150 DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) cases. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico confirmed the situation, but has provided limited details at this time.

Ongoing Federal Investigation

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico has revealed that federal law enforcement activity has taken place at three different locations: one in Albuquerque, one in Edgewood, and one in Los Lunas. Furthermore, there has also been law enforcement activity at a law firm in Albuquerque. The exact connection between these locations and the officers on leave remains unclear.

Dismissal of DWI Cases

The federal investigation has also led to the dismissal of more than 150 DWI cases. Authorities have stated that this decision is linked to their ongoing investigation. The cases, which were filed between 2016 and 2024, have now been dropped by the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office. They have assured the public that additional cases are currently under review.

The Road Ahead

The investigation is still ongoing, and further developments are expected. Both the Albuquerque Police Department and the Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office are cooperating with federal authorities throughout this process. While specific details remain cloaked, it is clear that this is a serious matter with potentially far-reaching implications.
