If you’re a fan of “The Daily Show,” get ready for some exciting news. Jon Stewart, the beloved former host of the iconic satirical news program, is returning to the show. The announcement left his former correspondent, John Oliver, completely surprised.

In an interview with NBC’s “Today,” Oliver shared his disbelief at the news. “I mean, that’s a surprise,” Oliver said. “That’s a show that needs a host. He certainly is a very, very good one. So yeah, it’ll be exciting to see what he does.”

But while Oliver is thrilled about Stewart’s return, he also believes that the show should consider appointing a permanent host after 2025. He mentioned former “Daily Show” correspondent Roy Wood Jr. and former Peacock host Amber Ruffin as potential candidates. However, Oliver couldn’t contain his excitement about Jon Stewart’s comeback, especially during an election year.

Comedy Central revealed that Stewart will serve as the host of “The Daily Show” on Monday nights throughout the 2024 election cycle, taking on an oversight role that could extend through 2025. He will begin his on-air duties on February 12.

Stewart himself shared the news on Twitter, humorously stating that he has decided to enter the transfer portal for his last year of eligibility. Fans of the show are eagerly anticipating his return.

In the “Today” interview, Oliver jokingly compared Stewart’s return to Michael Jordan’s decision to come back to the Chicago Bulls after retirement. Stewart’s tenure as host of “The Daily Show” from 1999 to 2015 made him synonymous with the program. Oliver, who joined the show in 2006 as its senior British correspondent, worked closely with Stewart for seven years before leaving in 2013.

It’s safe to say that fans of “The Daily Show” can look forward to some fantastic episodes with Jon Stewart back at the helm. Be sure to tune in and catch all the satirical brilliance that awaits us.
