A horrifying incident took place outside Bournemouth and Poole College, where a violent brawl involving at least six individuals resulted in injuries to five people. Among the injured were three college students. The incident, which involved the use of machetes, has sent shockwaves throughout the community.
Chaos Unleashed
On Meyrick Road, near the college premises, a fight broke out yesterday afternoon. The altercation soon escalated, leaving several individuals injured and causing panic among bystanders. The situation quickly drew the attention of law enforcement, who promptly arrived at the scene.
Arrests Made
Following the incident, a 17-year-old girl from Bournemouth was arrested on suspicion of assault and wounding with intent. In addition, a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old man, both from Bournemouth, were also apprehended on suspicion of wounding with intent. All those arrested were taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
College Students Injured
The Bournemouth and Poole College confirmed that three of the injured individuals were college students. However, it is believed that the other two victims had no affiliation with the institution. The incident occurred shortly after students completed a safety survey, raising questions about the effectiveness of the college’s security measures.
One anonymous student described the situation, stating, “There was a fight a few weeks ago and they said ‘this is not over’ and it all kicked off again. Two of them pulled out machetes, and we think two people were stabbed.”
College Staff Commended
The college’s principal, Phil Sayles, praised the bravery of the college staff who attempted to intervene and bring an end to the violence. Alongside emergency responders, they provided first aid to the injured students. As a precautionary measure, staff members have been stationed outside the entrance to support students arriving and leaving the campus.
Expressing his concern, Mr. Sayles said, “I am deeply concerned about the incident, which took place yesterday near our Bournemouth campus, and that three of our students were injured in it. My heart goes out to the students and their families, who we were immediately in contact with after the incident, and all those affected by the incident.”
Investigation Underway
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Bell of BCP CID assured the public that there was no wider threat to the area as the incident involved two groups of young people who were known to each other. A knife and a glass bottle were reportedly used during the altercation, but fortunately, there were no serious injuries.
Authorities are urging anyone with information or footage related to the incident to come forward and contact Dorset Police. A visible police presence will be maintained in the area, and neighborhood policing teams will conduct reassurance patrols to address any concerns or gather additional information.
