Whoopi Goldberg, on a recent episode of “The View,” didn’t hold back in criticizing Fox News for perpetuating a conspiracy theory that suggests Taylor Swift is being used by the U.S. government to control public opinion. This theory, which has gained traction, was denounced by Goldberg as a distraction from real issues facing Americans.
Fox News’ Allegation
During the episode, a clip from Fox News featuring popular host Jesse Watters was aired. In the clip, Watters questioned Swift’s sudden rise to fame and suggested it may be due to her being a government asset. He referenced a claim that the Pentagon’s Psychological Operations unit had considered using Swift as a PsyOp to combat online misinformation during a NATO meeting.
Watters further speculated that Swift’s encouragement of her fans to vote was evidence of her government ties, suggesting that someone from the White House may have influenced her.
The Response
Goldberg vehemently dismissed these claims, calling them a distraction from more important issues. She highlighted the fact that Swift’s efforts to encourage voter participation, including among segments of the population typically underrepresented in elections, should be seen as a positive contribution.
Sunny Hostin, another co-host on “The View,” added that Watters and others were disappointed because they had expected Swift to align with conservative values. However, she has consistently shown support for causes like gun control, LGBTQ rights, and women’s reproductive rights.
An Unapologetic Stand
Goldberg expressed her frustration with what she called “dumb” people and their obsession with insignificant matters. She made it clear that she was tired of such distractions and wished for more meaningful conversations on the show.
Taylor Swift’s Success
Despite the controversy, Taylor Swift continues to achieve remarkable success. Her concert film, “The Eras Tour,” has surpassed Michael Jackson’s “This Is It” as the highest-grossing concert film of all time, earning over $261.6 million and counting at the global box office. Swift plans to take her tour worldwide, starting with shows in Tokyo on February 7, 2024.
