Warner Bros.’ latest film, Wonka, continues to dominate the U.K. and Ireland box office, raking in an impressive £6.6 million ($8.4 million) over the weekend of December 29. With this weekend’s earnings, the Timothée Chalamet starrer has accumulated an astounding £43.8 million in the region after just four weekends.
A Sweet Success
In second place, Black Bear’s Ferrari, directed by Michael Mann and starring Adam Driver and Penelope Cruz, made a roaring £1.9 million debut. Meanwhile, Warner Bros.’ Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom held its ground in third place, bringing in £1.7 million in its second weekend, resulting in a total of £5.9 million.
Newcomers and Surprises
Elysian‘s The Boy And The Heron, directed by the renowned Miyazaki Hayao, made a splash with a £1.6 million debut, securing fourth place. Meanwhile, Sony‘s Anyone But You also had a commendable debut, earning £1.2 million, rounding off the top five.
Another notable debut in the top 10 was Disney‘s Next Goal Wins, which earned £844,604.
Upcoming Releases
Moving forward, there are several highly anticipated films that audiences can look forward to. On Monday, January 1, MUBI‘s Priscilla, starring Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi, as well as Warner Bros.’ One Life, featuring Anthony Hopkins, were released in more than 300 locations each.
