It was an extraordinary moment last night when England rugby icon, Manu Tuilagi, watched his nephew, Posolo, make his debut for France. Manu, who boasts an impressive 59 caps for England and has also represented the British & Irish Lions, looked on with pride as his nephew stepped onto the international stage.
Manu Tuilagi and his siblings, Freddie, Henry, Alesana, Anitelea, and Sanele Vavae, all hail from Samoa but relocated to England during their childhood. While his brothers opted to play professionally for Samoa, Manu decided to don the white jersey of England. Now, with Posolo’s debut for France, the Tuilagi family adds another nation to their remarkable rugby legacy.
Posolo, at just 19 years old, was born in Samoa but moved to England as an infant before settling in France at the age of three, when his father played for Perpignan. After progressing through the ranks of the USAP academy for 12 years, Posolo has now cemented his place in Perpignan’s first team.
Having previously represented France at the youth level, Posolo made his senior debut during the second half of France’s Six Nations opener against Ireland. To further add to the family bond, Manu Tuilagi was in the crowd, beaming with pride as he witnessed his nephew enter the game. Sadly, Posolo’s introduction couldn’t prevent his side from suffering a disappointing 38-17 defeat.
While France entered the tournament as second-favorites, only behind Ireland, their chances were severely dented by a dominant Irish performance. Looking ahead, Ireland will face Italy in Dublin next week, while France aims to bounce back as they travel to Murrayfield.
