Warner Bros. Discovery, the renowned film distributor, has recently announced its acquisition of BluTV, Turkey’s leading streaming platform, in a landmark deal. With a 3-year strategic partnership in place, Warner Bros. Discovery now holds a 35% stake in BluTV, the country’s pioneering SVOD (Subscription Video on Demand) service. Since its launch in 2016, BluTV has experienced rapid growth in original content and film library, paving the way for the introduction of Discovery+ on this platform in 2021. In February, HBO content and children’s TV channels were added to BluTV, giving viewers access to channels like Cartoon Network and Cartoonito, along with popular shows like “The Last of Us,” “Game of Thrones,” and “Sex and the City.”

“We are thrilled about this new chapter,” expressed Jamie Cooke, the Regional Managing Director for Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Turkey at Warner Bros. Discovery. “For over 20 years, Turkey has been a significant investment territory for us, and the acquisition of BluTV adds the country’s first SVOD platform to our investment portfolio. The combination of Turkey’s engaging content and the finest international films and shows from Warner Bros. Discovery is an unbeatable formula for success, perfectly tailored to local users. Together, we bring the most captivating film-watching experience to Turkish audiences and expand the reach of Turkish content worldwide.”

Furthermore, Deniz Şaşmaz Oflaz, CEO of BluTV, expressed their delight about the strategic partnership with Discovery Inc., which began in 2021 and has now made them part of the Warner Bros. Discovery family. As Turkey’s leading subscription-based video platform, they take pride in the steady growth they have achieved since day one, becoming a part of one of the world’s largest media companies. From now on, they will combine their best local stories with the finest global content to create Turkey’s strongest streaming platform, sharing the most successful local stories with the world.
