A couple’s dream of a beautiful family home turned into a nightmare when a cowboy builder left them homeless for 17 months. Zeeshan Noorani, 37, and his wife Gosia, 41, who live in Reading, spent £115,000 on renovating their house, only to be left with a leaky roof, no windows, and a damp and uninhabitable living space. The rogue builder, who was recommended to them, abruptly quit before completing the project, leaving them in a state of purgatory.
A Desperate Situation
The couple, along with their two daughters, Clara, five, and Sophia, three, have been without a fixed address for nearly two years. They have been forced to rely on friends, family, Airbnb, and even a two-star hotel for shelter during this difficult time. The situation has taken a toll on Zeeshan’s mental health, leading to a nervous breakdown.
Seeking Help and Justice
Zeeshan reported the cowboy builder to Trading Standards and reached out to the local council and police. However, he was informed that it is a civil matter. To make their home habitable, the couple was forced to borrow an additional £75,000. They have also hired a new builder, who has been a great support. Despite their efforts, they are still £8,000 short of completing the necessary renovations.
In an attempt to raise funds, Zeeshan and Gosia have launched an online fundraiser to help finish their four-bedroom mid-terrace home. The original completion date was set for December 2022, but due to the builder’s betrayal, the family remains unable to move back in.
A Nightmare Beyond Words
Zeeshan struggles to find words to describe their ordeal, calling it “dire, horrendous, horrific.” The family feels stuck in a never-ending nightmare while the rest of the world moves forward. Zeeshan emphasizes that their current situation was not a result of reckless spending but rather the consequence of a builder’s negligence.
The emotional and financial burden they carry is immense, with Zeeshan’s breakdown leaving a lasting impact. The couple’s eldest daughter, Clara, has also suffered as she had to be taken out of school.
A Beacon of Hope
Despite the challenges they face, Zeeshan and Gosia remain resilient. They are determined to overcome this setback and provide a safe and secure home for their family. The support they receive from friends, family, and the community has given them hope.
