A popular bargain shop, often compared to Poundstretcher, has dealt a blow to deal-savvy shoppers by closing down another store permanently. This time, it’s a MaxiSaver branch in Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, that has rolled down its shutters for good.
Loyal customers were saddened to discover the closure, as they found the shutters pulled down at the former store on December 31. MaxiSaver owners left a note behind, expressing gratitude to their customers. The note mentioned, “This store is now permanently closed. We would like to thank all our customers.” It also directed former customers to find their nearest store or shop online through the chain’s website.
MaxiSaver describes itself as a new name in convenience shopping, offering well-branded stock at affordable prices. Their product range includes food and drink, household items, cleaning products, pet gear, stationery, beauty products, leisure items, garden supplies, as well as seasonal and health products. Prices at MaxiSaver cater to the budget market, starting from as low as 29p and going up to £59.99.
MaxiSaver gained popularity among savvy shoppers for its great deals on a wide variety of items, ranging from Halloween decorations to kids’ favorite teddy bears. Poundstretcher, another well-known bargain store, has been considered its closest rival, offering products with prices that can range between 15p and £90.
While MaxiSaver had plans to rival Poundstretcher, it has recently closed down several of its stores. The Eastwood branch was the last remaining MaxiSaver store in Nottinghamshire. Newark’s MaxiSaver shut its doors in February 2022, and the chain’s Mansfield store has also recently closed. Poundstretcher itself faced financial difficulties in March 2022, resulting in the closure of 17 stores and the loss of over 1,000 retail staff.
Despite the challenges faced by these bargain retailers, Poundstretcher continues to push for aggressive expansion. In July 2020, the company entered a legal arrangement to restructure its business and continue trading. At that time, it closed 500 branches and paid off around £13 million of its debts. Currently, Poundstretcher operates over 350 stores nationwide.
It’s unfortunate to see MaxiSaver closing another branch permanently, as it provided affordable options for budget-conscious shoppers. However, customers can still explore other MaxiSaver locations or shop online through their website.
