Marvel fans have been eagerly anticipating the upcoming “Thunderbolts” film, but it seems that there have been some changes in the casting. It has been confirmed by Variety that Steven Yeun is no longer involved in the project. While Marvel never officially announced his casting, it was initially reported back in February. Now, it remains uncertain whether the role will be recast or rethought altogether.

A Band of Antiheroes

“Thunderbolts” is based on the Marvel comics and brings together a group of antiheroes. The film promises to merge the worlds of “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “Black Widow,” and the upcoming “Captain America: New World Order.” However, the plot details have been kept under wraps, adding to the excitement and speculation surrounding the movie.

Production Hurdles

The production of “Thunderbolts” encountered a setback in May due to the Writers Guild of America strike. Filming has yet to commence following the resolution of both the writers and actors strikes from last year. Despite these challenges, the film is still moving forward, albeit with some casting changes.

A Talented Team

“Paper Towns” director Jake Schreier is helming the project, with Lee Sung Jin penning the script based on Eric Pearson’s first draft. The star-studded cast of “Thunderbolts” includes Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Wyatt Russell as John Walker. Additionally, breakout star Ayo Edebiri of “The Bear” fame has joined the cast in an undisclosed role. The film was originally slated for release on July 26, 2024, but has been pushed back to July 2025.

Steven Yeun’s Recent Success

While fans may be disappointed about Steven Yeun’s departure from “Thunderbolts,” they can still catch him in other exciting projects. He recently starred alongside Ali Wong in Netflix’s “Beef,” which earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Male Actor in a Limited Series. Yeun also has a role in Bong Joon Ho’s highly anticipated sci-fi thriller “Mickey 17,” alongside Robert Pattinson.
