Pontins Southport, one of the country’s well-loved holiday parks, has sadly announced its permanent closure. This news comes just weeks after two other Pontins parks shut down. It was only a few days ago that families gathered at Pontins Southport to celebrate the turn of the year with a joyous New Year’s Eve party. However, unforeseen circumstances forced the closure of the park due to flooding caused by Storm Henk.

A Disappointing Announcement
In a statement, Pontins Southport Holiday Park expressed their deep sadness, regretfully sharing the news of its closure. The park’s future viability was evaluated, leading to the difficult decision to permanently close its doors. Effective from January 3rd, 2024, the closure of Pontins Southport means families will have to seek alternative holiday destinations. The park sincerely apologized for any inconvenience caused by this unfortunate development.

Recent Closures and the Impact
The closure of Pontins Southport follows the shuttering of Pontins Prestatyn and Pontins Camber Sands just a few weeks ago. While Pontins assured affected guests of contact and refunds, many families expressed their heartbreak upon hearing this news. What was once a network of 30 holiday parks across the UK has now diminished to just two operational locations. Currently, Pakefield Holiday Park in Suffolk and Sand Bay Holiday Village in Somerset are the only Pontins sites open for holidaymakers. Meanwhile, Pontins Brean Sands is temporarily closed to the public, undergoing extensive refurbishment and upgrades to its 600 chalets. The site serves as accommodation for workers at the Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant while construction continues on the new power plant.
Similar Closures Elsewhere
Regrettably, the closures of Pontins Southport and other holiday destinations are not isolated incidents. Alton Towers Spa, after 21 years of service, has announced its closure. Additionally, KidZania London, the popular indoor mini city where children could engage in various real-life occupations, has also shut down after eight years.
It is disappointing to witness these closures, as they limit the choices available to holidaymakers seeking memorable and enjoyable experiences. Let’s hope that the affected individuals find alternative destinations and continue to create cherished memories with their loved ones.
