The British Academy has unveiled the longlist for the 2024 BAFTA Film Awards, and it’s no surprise that three films are leading the pack. The cultural phenomenon of “Barbenheimer” continues to make waves during this awards season. Both “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” have been named in 15 categories, including best film and director. Joining them with 15 slots is “Killers of the Flower Moon,” creating a three-way tie for the top position. Last year, only “All Quiet on the Western Front” earned 15 longlist places, going on to dominate the awards ceremony.

Further down the longlist, “Poor Things” was named in 14 categories, “Maestro” in 12, and “Saltburn” in 11, narrowly missing out on a best film nomination. Other U.K. films also fared well, with “The Zone of Interest” and “All of Us Strangers” earning 10 nominations, including best film. “Wonka” received eight nominations, while “How to Have Sex” and “Rye Lane” earned six and five nominations respectively.

It’s worth noting that the directors of “How to Have Sex” and “Rye Lane,” Molly Manning Walker and Raine Allen-Miller, respectively, as well as their lead stars Mia McKenna-Bruce and Vivian Oparah, were recognized alongside some well-established greats in the director and leading actress categories.

The final nominations list will be announced on January 18, and the BAFTA Film Awards ceremony will take place on February 18 at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
