Mythbusters

French TV giant Banijay has made a significant decision, selling back the production arm of Beyond International, the Australian producer and distributor that is widely known for its hit show “Mythbusters.” The production arm has been sold to Mikael Borgland, the managing director of Beyond International.

A Strategic Move

Under the new deal, Banijay will still retain control of Beyond’s distribution business, a move that has already been seamlessly integrated into its own operations. Additionally, Banijay will keep ownership of Beyond’s extensive catalog, boasting more than 8,000 hours of programming, including popular shows like “Highway Thru Hell,” “Heavy Rescue: 401,” “Massive Engineering Mistakes,” and “Deadly Women.” However, the production of future projects will now fall under the ownership of Beyond.

Looking Ahead

Beyond International and Banijay Rights have also reached a five-year first-look distribution deal for the future productions of the Beyond group. This agreement secures a continued partnership between the companies.

“I am thrilled about the opportunity for Beyond to continue as an independent production company, leveraging the experience, capabilities, and talents of our international creative teams,” said Mikael Borgland, the managing director of Beyond International. He expressed his commitment to maintaining the passion for production that has been nurtured since the inception of Beyond in 1984.

Banijay’s Expansion

Banijay’s acquisition spree continues, as the company has made several notable purchases in recent years. In 2020, it closed a $2.2 billion deal to acquire Endemol Shine, the production company behind popular shows like “Big Brother,” “MasterChef,” “Black Mirror,” and “Peaky Blinders.” In addition to this, Banijay recently acquired The Forge, a prominent UK scripted outfit responsible for producing shows like “Help,” which stars Jodie Comer and Stephen Graham.
