The Last of Us, the hit HBO series, has recently announced the addition of Isabela Merced to its Season 2 cast. Merced will be playing the role of Dina, a character described as warm, brilliant, wild, funny, moral, dangerous, and instantly lovable, according to the series co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.
Merced joins the other newcomers, Kaitlyn Dever and “Beef” star Young Mazino, in the ensemble. Dina’s character is a free-spirited individual whose loyalty to Ellie will be tested amidst the brutality of their post-apocalyptic world.
Isabela Merced has established herself as a talented actress in recent years, starring in various films such as “Rosaline” alongside Dever, the live-action feature “Dora and the Lost City of Gold,” “Instant Family” with Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne, “Sicario: Day of the Soldado,” and “Transformers: The Last Knight.” She has also secured high-profile roles in upcoming films like “Superman: Legacy,” “Alien: Romulus,” and “Madame Web.”
The Last of Us is a television adaptation of the popular video game of the same name, created by Druckmann and developed by Naughty Dog. Set twenty years after the collapse of civilization, the story revolves around Joel (played by Pedro Pascal), a hardened survivor hired to smuggle Ellie (played by Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of a tyrannical quarantine zone. What begins as a simple task turns into a grueling and heartbreaking journey as they rely on each other for survival.
The first season of The Last of Us received critical acclaim and garnered numerous award nominations, including three Golden Globe nominations and 25 Emmy nominations. At the Creative Arts Emmys, the show has already won eight awards, including Best Guest Actor and Actress in a Drama Series for Nick Offerman and Storm Reid respectively.
