Mean Girls

Hey there, movie buffs! Hold on tight because “Mean Girls,” the musical adaptation of the iconic teen comedy, is hitting the big screen this weekend. And guess what? It’s already made a whopping $3.25 million at the box office in Thursday previews!

A Fresh Take on a Classic Story

This 2024 film is based on the wildly popular 2018 Broadway musical, which in turn was inspired by the 2004 comedy classic. But let’s not forget that the roots of this tale go even deeper to the 2002 book titled “Queen Bees and Wannabees.” It’s a whole web of inspiration! In this new version, Angourie Rice stars as Cady Heron, the homeschooled fish out of water originally played by Lindsay Lohan. She embarks on a new school adventure and befriends The Plastics, the ultimate “cool girl” squad, played by Renee Rapp, Bebe Wood, and Avantika.

Box Office Success in the Making

With the anticipation building, “Mean Girls” is forecasted to make a stunning $30 million over the course of the four-day MLK Day weekend. This is quite a feat considering it was initially intended for streaming. Considering it was produced on a budget of $36 million, this opening would be a definite success.

Mean Girls Cast

A Star-Studded Ensemble

The movie boasts a star-studded cast, including Auli’i Cravalho and Jaquel Spivey as Cady’s friends Janis and Damian. Jenna Fischer steps in as Cady’s mom, while Christopher Briney plays Cady’s crush, Aaron Samuels. Busy Philipps portrays Regina’s mom, Tim Meadows as Principal Duvall, Jon Hamm as Coach Carr, and Ashley Park as Madame Park. Let’s not forget the brilliant Tina Fey, who wrote both the original screenplay and this new version, returning to the screen as math teacher Ms. Norbury.

More Movies to Look Out For!

While “Mean Girls” takes center stage, there are a couple of other enticing movies hitting theaters this weekend. Expect some high-octane action with Jason Statham in Amazon MGM’s “The Beekeeper,” which raked in $2.4 million during previews. It’s projected to soar with an estimated weekend haul of $17 million to $19 million. And for those in the mood for a biblical comedy, don’t miss Sony’s “The Book of Clarence,” starring LaKeith Stanfield. It’s eyeing an opening of $7 million.
