Jesse Lingard, the former Manchester United star, has reportedly sacked his agents as he continues to search for a new club. Lingard has been without a team since becoming a free agent in June after being released by Nottingham Forest.
The 31-year-old had trained with his old club West Ham in the summer but later decided to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq, managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard. However, Lingard couldn’t sign a contract with them due to the league’s restrictions on foreign players.
Since then, Lingard has been sharing training clips on social media while he looks for a new opportunity. Unfortunately, these videos drew criticism from Manchester United legend Paul Scholes, who questioned Lingard’s dedication to the game.
There have been rumors linking Lingard to Everton in the upcoming January transfer window. Additionally, reports have emerged that Lingard has offered himself to Barcelona.
According to Sky Sports News, Lingard’s frustration in finding a new club has led him to take drastic action. A source close to the player revealed that Lingard simply wants to play football and has terminated all ties with his former agents.
Last season, Lingard contributed two goals and two assists in 20 games for Nottingham Forest. However, prior to that, during an impressive loan spell with West Ham, Lingard scored 35 goals and provided 21 assists in 232 matches for Manchester United. He also earned 32 caps for England, scoring six goals.
As Lingard’s search for a new club intensifies, the football world waits to see where the talented midfielder will land next.
