A Second Chance for Ariel
Ariel, named after the beloved character from “The Little Mermaid,” caught the attention of Greenacres Rescue when she was discovered in Pembroke, Wales. With multiple birth defects and two extra legs resembling flippers, Ariel’s condition posed a unique challenge. Determined to give her a chance at a fulfilling life, Greenacres Rescue raised funds for the necessary surgery.
Unprecedented Surgery Leads the Way
The Langford Vets Small Animal Referral Hospital, part of the University of Bristol, stepped up to perform the groundbreaking operation on Ariel. This exceptional canine case had never been seen before at the hospital. Dr. Vicki Black, the hospital’s director, praised Ariel’s resilience and the dedication of her medical team. “Ariel was a complicated little dog,” she said. “We are a center committed to career-long learning and are proud to innovate and treat pets like Ariel.”

Embracing a New Lease on Life
After a successful surgery, Ariel began her journey towards embracing life on four legs. The extra limbs, which were of no use, were surgically removed. The incredible transformation allowed her to experience the joy of running and playing in the grass. On her discharge day, with determination and enthusiasm, Ariel explored the world outside the hospital, sniffing the ground and tugging on her leash like a true bird dog.
