Australian actor Rebel Wilson and singer and actor Harry Connick Jr. have been announced as the hosts of the 2024 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) awards. Wilson will take the stage on Saturday, Feb. 10, while Connick Jr. will host the AACTA Industry Awards on Feb. 8. The ceremonies, presented by Foxtel Group, will be held at the Home of the Arts (HOTA) on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
Shorts to Features
At Flickerlab 2024, a one-day event from shorts to features, esteemed personalities such as writer-director-actor Alice Englert, producer Jodi Matterson, director David Michôd, and producer Jamie Hilton will be among the speakers. The event, backed by the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) and the Flickerfest 33rd International Film Festival, will be held in Bondi, New South Wales.

The Miss World Organization has appointed EndemolShine India as the producers for the upcoming 71st Miss World Festival. The festival, which returns to India after 28 years, is scheduled to take place from Feb. 18 to March 9. It will be streamed and broadcast globally from various venues, including the Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi and the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai.
Production
Filming has begun on the four-part psychological thriller series, “Dead and Buried,” written by Colin Bateman. Commissioned by BBC Northern Ireland and Virgin Media Television in association with All3Media International, the series follows Cathy and her young son as they encounter Michael, the man convicted of her brother’s brutal murder 20 years ago. The cast includes Annabel Scholey, Colin Morgan, Kerri Quinn, Waj Ali, Owen Roe, and Niamh Walsh. The series will be filmed in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

BBC Children has commissioned “Crongton” from New Pictures, in association with All3Media International. Based on the bestselling novels by Alex Wheatle, the 10-part returning series is written by Archie Maddocks. It chronicles the lives and journeys of a group of young people living in a multicultural community in a fictional urban housing estate, as they navigate social politics, peer pressure, and identity.
