Have you ever wondered what it would be like to step into a real-life Jurassic Park? Well, one adventurous traveler did just that, embarking on a journey through the mountains of a landlocked state to explore a forgotten 65-acre “Dinosaur World.” This incredible expedition uncovered a mesmerizing glimpse into a prehistoric world that still echoes with the presence of ancient creatures.
A Forgotten Jurassic Park
Dinosaur World, located in Beaver, Arkansas, was once a bustling tourist hotspot featuring about 100 life-size sculptures of dinosaurs, cavemen, and other prehistoric creatures. Established in 1967, it quickly grew to become the largest dinosaur park in the world. However, after many years of captivating visitors, the park closed its doors in 2005, leaving its fascinating inhabitants to be swallowed by time.
Captivating Photographs
Photographer Dax Ward recently managed to gain access to this abandoned site, although he remained tight-lipped about the specifics. He mentioned that entry is highly restricted, with overseers nearby ensuring the site’s preservation. The photographs he captured during his visit tell a captivating story of a once-thriving park now shrouded in mystery and nostalgia.
A Journey Through Time
Walking through the park, Dax marveled at the lifelike sculptures that transported him back to a time when dinosaurs roamed the earth. The natural setting of the Ozark Mountains in Northwestern Arkansas provided a picturesque backdrop to the kitschy but enchanting atmosphere of the park. As he explored, Dax couldn’t help but imagine what the park was like during its heyday, the excitement it brought to children, and the sense of wonder it inspired.
A Realistic Habitat
Dinosaur World’s charm lies not only in its striking sculptures but also in its natural setting. A large creek called Spider Creek divides the park, with most of the dinosaurs located on the north side. This realistic habitat adds to the authenticity of the giant reptiles depicted in the intricately crafted statues.
Echoes of the Past
It’s fascinating to learn that some of Dinosaur World’s dinosaurs made appearances in movies such as the 1969 horror film “It’s Alive!” and the 2005 film “Elizabethtown.” These sculptures, with their incredible attention to detail, were once brought to life on the big screen.
A Haunting Reminder
Dax Ward is no stranger to exploring abandoned sites. Previously, he captured haunting images of an abandoned hospital in Bangkok and the decaying remnants of Turkey’s Ankapark, once Europe’s biggest theme park. These forgotten places serve as a haunting reminder of the passage of time and the changing landscapes of our favorite pastimes.
Explore the Abandoned
As Dax Ward’s awe-inspiring photographs show, venturing into abandoned spaces can offer a unique perspective on the past. From the decaying remnants of once-thriving attractions to the eerie silence that fills the air, these forgotten places have a story to tell. While they may no longer be the bustling tourist destinations they once were, they continue to captivate the imagination and remind us of the passage of time.
