Kangana Ranaut

Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut’s highly anticipated film, “Emergency,” has finally set a release date. The movie focuses on one of the most controversial periods in post-Independence Indian history when then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a nationwide state of emergency from 1975 to 1977. During this time, civil liberties and press freedom were curtailed and elections were canceled.

Ranaut, known for her acting prowess, not only stars in the film as Indira Gandhi but also takes on the roles of writer, director, and producer. Produced by Zee Studios and Ranaut’s own Manikarnika Films, “Emergency” boasts a talented ensemble cast including Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik.

Interestingly, there is another project in the works that explores the same subject. “Indi(r)a’s Emergency,” a three-part documentary series by Applause Entertainment and Vikramaditya Motwane’s Andolan Films, is yet to be released.

Kangana Ranaut describes “Emergency” as the most controversial and scathing event in the history of Indian democracy. She emphasizes that the film is not only a gripping and dramatic story but also sheds light on the rise and fall of one of the most popular world leaders and India’s first woman Prime Minister, Mrs. Indira Gandhi.

Mark your calendars, as “Emergency” will release theatrically worldwide on June 14.
