Netflix has announced the promotion of Carolina Leconte to the role of senior director of content at its Mexican branch. Leconte takes over from Roberto Stopello, who recently left the company.
A Successful Journey at Netflix
Leconte joined Netflix in 2021 as the director of original series for Latin America. During her time in this role, she spearheaded several successful productions, including the second season of the Colombian series “The Marked Heart,” which became one of the most popular non-English TV series on Netflix in 2022. Leconte also played a pivotal role in the hit series “Fake Profile,” which dominated the global Top 10 ranking for non-English series for six weeks in 2023. Last year, she achieved remarkable success with “Love After Music,” a series based on the career of Argentine musician Fito Paéz, among many others.
Leconte’s impressive career extends beyond Netflix. She has previously worked on renowned titles such as “Luis Miguel- The Series” (Seasons 2 and 3), “42 Days of Darkness,” and Season 2 of “Control Z.” With over 20 years of industry experience, she has been involved in notable productions including “El señor de los cielos,” “Rosario Tijeras,” “Paquita la del Barrio,” and “La Guzmán.” Prior to her role at Netflix, Leconte held positions as the VP of development and creative production at MGM’s Gato Grande, creative VP at Sony Pictures Entertainment, and senior director of co-productions at Caracol Televisión.
Exciting Times for Netflix Mexico
Leconte’s promotion comes at a vibrant time for Netflix’s production hub in Mexico. The streaming giant recently announced a $300 million commitment to Mexican cinema and series as part of its #QueMéxicoSeVea (“Let Mexico Be Seen”) initiative. Last year, Netflix unveiled several projects in various stages of production, including “Fiesta en la Madriguera” (“Down the Rabbit Hole”) directed by Manolo Caro, an adaptation of Bárbara Anderson’s novel “The Two Hemispheres of Lucca” directed by Mariana Chenillo, and “Pedro Páramo,” the directorial debut of Rodrigo Prieto, adapted from the seminal classic by Juan Rulfo. These projects highlight Netflix’s dedication to showcasing Mexican talent and stories.
With Carolina Leconte at the helm as the senior director of content in Mexico, Netflix is poised to continue its successful streak of innovative and captivating productions. Her vast expertise and experience will undoubtedly contribute to the streaming giant’s commitment to delivering high-quality content to audiences worldwide.
