woman-accused-of-stealing-2500-worth-of-stanley-cups

The news of a woman accused of stealing more than five dozen Stanley drinking cups from Dick’s Sporting Goods has been making headlines. Delany Garcia-Lopez, a 23-year-old, was recently released on a $150,000 bond after being charged with grand theft, driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit. In addition to her bond, she has also agreed to wear a GPS tracking device.

The alleged theft of 65 Stanley stainless steel drinking cups, valued at nearly $2,500, took place at a Dick’s Sporting Goods store on Stanford Ranch Road. This incident caught the attention of the Placer County District Attorney’s Office, who filed the complaint against Garcia-Lopez. While the bail amount and monitoring conditions might seem high, they are considered necessary for a felony grand theft charge.

Placer County District Attorney Morgan Gire emphasized the seriousness of theft in the community. She stated, “Placer County has and always will take theft seriously. Our community will not stand for people stealing from our local businesses. Our office is committed to working with law enforcement partners, the business community, and residents to combat this issue and hold criminals accountable.”

At present, there has been no comment from Garcia-Lopez or her counsel. Similarly, a manager at Dick’s Sporting Goods declined to discuss the theft. However, the incident was recounted by Roseville officers who were called to the scene. They reported that staff saw Garcia-Lopez taking a shopping cart full of Stanley water bottles without paying for them. When confronted, she refused to stop and proceeded to load her car with the stolen merchandise. An officer later spotted the suspect vehicle and initiated a traffic stop, leading to her apprehension.

Stanley cups have gained significant popularity in recent months, with social media influencers influencing their appeal among consumers. The Quencher cup, in particular, has become a fashionable item, holding 40 fluid ounces and retailing on the Stanley website for $45. However, the police sternly warned against resorting to crime to satisfy one’s hydration habits.
