Judge Judy Sheindlin is making a comeback on traditional television screens. Amazon MGM Studios and Sox Entertainment have secured a multi-year broadcast syndication deal with station groups across more than 100 U.S. broadcast markets. Nexstar, Sunbeam, Cox Media, Weigel, and Mission Broadcasting are among the groups partnering to bring repeats of Amazon Freevee’s “Judy Justice” to local TV stations.

Streaming Show Goes Traditional

It’s rare to see a streaming show being sold for off-network syndication, but “Judy Justice” is breaking barriers. While CBS Media Ventures continues to distribute repeats of the long-running hit series “Judge Judy” in syndication, Amazon Freevee’s “Judy Justice” will now also grace local TV screens. In some markets, there may even be a faceoff between the two shows.

Fall 2024 Premiere

The highly anticipated “Judy Justice” episodes, comprising nearly 250 episodes of Freevee content, will premiere in the fall of 2024. Amazon has confirmed that the syndication deal covers stations in all top 10 markets. This exciting development marks a full circle moment for Judge Judy Sheindlin, who expressed her enthusiasm for this new adventure.

A Deal Orchestrated by Industry Veteran

Sox Entertainment CEO Scott Koondel, who serves as the executive producer of “Judy Justice,” played a key role in orchestrating this groundbreaking syndication deal. Koondel, with his wealth of experience from working with Sheindlin and “Judge Judy” during his tenure as head of CBS TV Distribution (now CBS Media Ventures), is thrilled to bring the show to linear television audiences nationwide. He commended TV station groups for embracing the innovative syndication model that brings talent that has been on broadcast stations for 28 years back to the forefront.

“Judy Justice” first premiered on Amazon Freevee in November 2021. Joining Judge Sheindlin in the courtroom are law clerk Sarah Rose, court stenographer Whitney Kumar, and bailiff Kevin Rasco. The series’ third season launched on Freevee and Prime Video on January 22 and continues to release new episodes every weekday through April 5.

A Pioneer On a Streaming Adventure

Amazon MGM Studios’ head of AVOD, unscripted, and targeted programming, Lauren Anderson, expressed her gratitude to Judge Sheindlin for taking the pioneering risk of bringing her new show and brand to the streaming service. Anderson praised Sheindlin’s common-sense, life-skills approach to justice, which has resonated with cross-generational Amazon customers. Now, in partnership with Sox Entertainment, “Judy Justice” will be delivered back to hundreds of broadcast markets and audiences across North America, completing a full circle.

Apart from Sheindlin and Koondel, the executive producers of “Judy Justice” include director Randy Douthit and co-executive producer Amy Freisleben.
