John Cena, the renowned wrestler and actor, is endorsing WWE’s recent collaboration with Netflix, which will see the streaming giant airing “Monday Night Raw” from 2025 onwards.
Speaking at the London premiere of his latest movie, “Argylle,” Cena expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that it would benefit everyone involved. He also took the opportunity to congratulate his former rival, Dwayne Johnson, on joining the board of TKO, WWE’s parent company.
Cena commended the move, saying, “That’s great for WWE, that’s obviously great for TKO. It came in tandem with an announcement that Dwayne Johnson is now on the board of TKO, and he’s going to be more involved with WWE — that warms my heart. I think it’s great for Netflix because WWE will get global exposure, and it will help Netflix in all of its markets.”
Highlighting the global appeal of WWE and its continuous entertainment value, Cena emphasized the mutual benefits of the partnership. He added, “This is a partnership that’s great for both brands. I couldn’t be happier.”
When asked about his own potential involvement with Netflix, Cena hinted at the possibility but confirmed his plans to step back from in-ring action. He shared, “I will retire soon from in-ring action. WWE’s always my family, I’ll always be there in any capacity they’ll have me, but we got a wonderful young generation that needs to strut their stuff. I hope I’m lucky enough to be on Netflix in 2025.”
In “Argylle,” directed by Matthew Vaughn, Cena portrays Wyatt, the loyal right-hand man to Henry Cavill’s fictional spy. Cena disclosed that the film surprised even him with its numerous unexpected twists and turns. “The movie was way different than the script I got — so many more twists and turns in the movie,” he revealed. “The movie was so much more suspenseful than the script.”
The plot of “Argylle” revolves around Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard), an introverted spy novelist who discovers that her books are predicting real-life espionage events. She is soon entangled in the action alongside undercover spy Aiden (Sam Rockwell), accompanied by her beloved cat, Alfie. While the film is based on a book attributed to the enigmatic Conway, the author’s true identity remains unknown. Some have even speculated that Taylor Swift penned the novel, although Vaughn has debunked this rumor.
Discussing the film’s intrigue, Cena remarked, “There’s been a lot of rumors about who Elly Conway really is. I don’t know, but I think it’s wonderful that a movie based on espionage with the tagline ‘the greater the spy the bigger the lie’ has espionage and misdirection on the way to the release.”
“Argylle” is set to hit theaters on February 2.
