2024 has kicked off with a bang for Colman Domingo and Ayo Edebiri. After receiving their first Oscar nomination and Emmy win, respectively, they are now leading the pack of film and TV nominees for the 55th NAACP Image Awards.

A Stellar Year for Colman Domingo and Ayo Edebiri

Colman Domingo has been nominated for three awards: outstanding actor in a motion picture for “Rustin,” outstanding supporting actor for “The Color Purple,” and entertainer of the year, the ceremony’s top prize. Ayo Edebiri, on the other hand, has been recognized for outstanding supporting actress in “The Bear” and guest actress in “Abbott Elementary.”

A Star-Studded Lineup

In the music recording categories, Victoria Monét received the most nominations, earning six nods including outstanding new artist. Usher follows closely behind with five nominations, including entertainer of the year.

Fantasia Barrino, Halle Bailey, and Keke Palmer, who had the opportunity to share the screen with Domingo and Usher this year, are also nominated for entertainer of the year.

Motion Picture Categories

“The Color Purple” dominates the motion picture categories with a leading 16 nominations, including outstanding motion picture. Other notable nominees in this category include “They Cloned Tyrone,” “Rustin,” “American Fiction,” and “Origin.”

The cast of “The Color Purple” has been nominated for the outstanding ensemble prize, and each member of the cast has also received individual nominations. “Origin” has also received recognition with Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor being nominated for outstanding actress in a motion picture.

TV Categories

On the TV side, “Abbott Elementary” leads with nine nominations after winning top honors at the 2023 awards. Creator and star Quinta Brunson is once again nominated for outstanding actress.

Other top contenders in the TV categories include “Harlem,” “Survival of the Thickest,” “UnPrisoned,” and “The Neighborhood.”

Celebrating Excellence in Entertainment

The winners of the NAACP Image Awards will be revealed during a two-hour live TV special airing on Sat., March 16 at 8:00 PM ET/PT on BET and CBS. The NAACP will also recognize winners in non-televised Image Awards categories from March 11-14, which will stream via naacpimageawards.net.
