Luke Littler, the 17-year-old darts sensation from Warrington, is not one to back down from a challenge. In response to Michael van Gerwen’s taunts, Littler declared that he is more than capable of handling the Premier League big boys. As he prepares for his debut in Cardiff tomorrow, Littler remains confident in his abilities.
Facing the Top Level
Van Gerwen, a three-time world champion, was asked if he would protect the young player. However, he quickly dismissed the idea, stating that Littler has now entered the realm of the big boys, where mercy is nonexistent. Every leg and every game is a battle, and everyone is playing for themselves on the stage.
When Littler was informed of Van Gerwen’s comment, he responded with determination. He sees himself as one of the big boys now and knows what to expect. If things go wrong, he can always rely on his dad and manager for guidance. Nevertheless, Littler is confident in his ability to handle the challenges that lie ahead. Playing alongside the best of the best is what he signed up for, and he is ready to face them every week.
Proving Himself
Littler has already demonstrated his skills by defeating five of his seven Premier League rivals, including Van Gerwen, Luke Humphries, Nathan Aspinall, Gerwyn Price (twice), and Rob Cross. In fact, Littler even achieved a nine-darter against Aspinall at the Bahrain Darts Masters, which he ultimately won. He has yet to face Michael Smith and Peter Wright.
Littler’s Premier League opener will be a rematch of the World Darts Championship final against world No. 1 Humphries, who emerged as the victor on that occasion. Littler aims to get into the heads of his competitors throughout the 17-week competition. With the confidence that comes from knowing he can beat anyone when he’s at his best, Littler remains unaffected by the pressure. He simply focuses on throwing his darts at the board.
Stay tuned as Littler takes on Humphries and the rest of the Premier League big boys, eager to make his mark in the world of darts.
