Crystal Palace manager, Roy Hodgson, is facing severe criticism from fans for what has been described as “one of the worst managerial decisions” in recent memory. The backlash comes after Michael Olise, the star player, was forced to leave the pitch due to injury after only 11 minutes in the match against Brighton and Hove Albion.
A Disappointing Start for Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace had a disastrous start as Lewis Dunk scored just three minutes into the game, putting Brighton ahead. The hosts then swiftly extended their lead to 3-0 by halftime, with goals from Jack Hinshelwood and Facundo Buonanotte.
Olise’s Unfortunate Exit
In an attempt to turn the game around, Hodgson introduced Olise as a substitute during the second half. However, it quickly became apparent why the Frenchman had been benched in the first place, as he had to limp off the field due to injury.
Fans Express Their Frustration
The fans wasted no time in expressing their disappointment and anger towards Hodgson. One fan vehemently criticized the decision, stating, “To put Olise on in a game we have already lost is one of the worst managerial decisions I have ever seen. And we paid the inevitable price.” Another fan simply stated, “You don’t know what you’re doing,” reflecting their frustration with the manager’s choices.
Concerns for Olise and Palace
The injury suffered by Olise is a significant blow for Crystal Palace, considering that Eberechi Eze, another key player, was also unavailable for the match. Fans have been calling for a change of management at the club following a lackluster run of three Premier League wins since October. Additionally, Olise’s future at Selhurst Park remains uncertain, as top clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal have reportedly shown interest in signing him.
As the pressure mounts on Hodgson, who signed a one-year deal with Palace last summer, it remains to be seen what the future holds for both the manager and the club. Palace fans are hoping for a turnaround in fortunes sooner rather than later.
