Gill was known for his genuine commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others. He actively participated in his church, mentored and befriended coworkers, served on the District of Columbia Board of Elections, and coached his daughter’s soccer team.

A Huge Loss for the Housing Policy Council

The Violent Carjacking Spree

The Washington Metropolitan Police Department provided details of the incident. On Monday afternoon, an unidentified individual entered a car and shot the male driver before fleeing the scene. Gill’s family later confirmed that he was the man who was shot. The entire ordeal, which involved a Jeep Grand Cherokee, took place within a span of three minutes. The assailant then attempted to steal a Mercedes-Benz but failed.

In a final act of violence, the attacker confronted a man and a woman, demanding their car keys. Tragically, the attacker shot Alberto Vasquez Jr., 35, and made off with a stolen Chrysler 200, according to an incident report.

The following morning, the attacker fired at a police cruiser on Interstate 295, causing damage to the vehicle. The assailant was identified as 28-year-old Artell Cunningham. After locating a disabled SUV that had been reported stolen, authorities encountered Cunningham, who was armed with two handguns. In response, officers fired at Cunningham, resulting in his death.
