In a showdown between “Migration” and “Argylle” at the U.K. and Ireland box office, the animated film emerged victorious, leaving its star-studded competitor in the dust.
Migration Takes Flight, Leaving Argylle Behind
With an impressive debut of £3.5 million ($4.4 million), as reported by Comscore, “Migration” claimed the top spot. Meanwhile, “Argylle,” which failed to make a global impact, settled for second place with £2 million.
Noteworthy Box Office Performances
In its third weekend, Paramount’s “Mean Girls” secured the third position, accumulating £843,601 and reaching a total of £6.8 million. Disney’s “All of Us Strangers” came in fourth place in its second weekend, collecting £797,004 and reaching a total of £2.7 million.
A24’s “The Zone of Interest” rounded off the top five with an impressive debut of £585,855. The only other newcomer to the Top 10 was Curzon-Amazon MGM’s “American Fiction,” which earned £389,375.
What’s Next at the Box Office?
Looking ahead, horror-comedy “Dagr” from Fizz and Ginger Films is set to open on Wednesday, Feb. 7. The following day, Tamil-language sports and gangster drama “Lal Salaam,” featuring Indian superstar Rajinikanth, will hit the screens.
Friday promises a plethora of releases. Modern Films will introduce Steve McQueen’s war documentary “Occupied City,” which had its debut at Cannes 2023.
Disney and Pixar will release three feature films this year leading up to the theatrical launch of “Inside Out 2” in June. The opening act is “Turning Red,” a 2022 film, followed by “Soul” in March and “Luca” in April, both from 2020 and 2021 respectively.
Lionsgate will present the sports biography “Iron Claw,” starring Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White, and Harris Dickinson.
In celebration of Chinese New Year, Trinity will bring the comedy-drama sequel “Table for Six 2” to the screen, featuring Stephy Tang, Louis Cheung Kai Chung, Ivana Wong, Lin Min Chen, Peter Chan Charm Man, Tse Kwan Ho, Jeffrey Ngai, and Ho Kai Wa.
Additionally, Vertigo Releasing will premiere BFI London Film Festival winner “Gassed Up,” while Mubi will release Cannes winner “The Settlers” and Tull Stories Sheffield-winning documentary “Your Fat Friend.”
For the younger audience, Trafalgar Releasing will debut “Peppa’s Cinema Party,” and Signature Entertainment will distribute “The Jungle Bunch World Tour.”
Finally, Bollywood film “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya,” starring Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, will also hit the screens on Friday.
Ahead of the release of “Dune 2” in March, Warner Bros. will bring back “Dune” to the theaters. Park Circus will also treat viewers to a couple of classic film re-releases: Po-Chih Leong’s 1986 neo-noir comedy-drama “Ping Pong” and the 4K restoration of Frank Capra’s “It Happened One Night” to celebrate its 90th anniversary.
