In a battle of two Universal titles at the U.K., Ireland box office, the animation film “Migration” has soared to the top, leaving the star-studded caper “Argylle” behind.
“Migration” Takes the Lead
According to Comscore, “Migration” made an impressive debut with £3.5 million ($4.4 million), securing the first position. On the other hand, “Argylle,” despite its global appeal, landed in second place with £2 million.
Weekend Box Office Highlights
In its third weekend, Paramount’s “Mean Girls” took the third spot, earning £843,601 and bringing its total to £6.8 million. Meanwhile, Disney’s “All of Us Strangers” collected £797,004 in its second weekend, reaching a total of £2.7 million.
A24’s “The Zone of Interest” made its way into the top five, debuting with £585,855. Another new entry in the Top 10 was Curzon-Amazon MGM’s “American Fiction,” which garnered £389,375.
Upcoming Releases
Looking ahead, horror-comedy “Dagr” from Fizz and Ginger Films is set to open on Wednesday, Feb. 7. The following day, Tamil-language sports and gangster drama “Lal Salaam,” featuring Indian superstar Rajinikanth, will hit the screens.
Friday will bring a plethora of releases. Modern Films will release Steve McQueen’s war documentary “Occupied City,” which made its debut at Cannes 2023.
Disney and Pixar enthusiasts can look forward to three feature films this year, paving the way for the highly anticipated June release of “Inside Out 2.” “Turning Red,” released in 2022, will hit theaters first, followed by “Soul” in March and “Luca” in April.
Additionally, Lionsgate will release the sports biography “Iron Claw,” starring Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White, and Harris Dickinson.
In celebration of the Chinese New Year, Trinity will present the comedy-drama sequel “Table for Six 2,” featuring Stephy Tang, Louis Cheung Kai Chung, Ivana Wong, Lin Min Chen, Peter Chan Charm Man, Tse Kwan Ho, Jeffrey Ngai, and Ho Kai Wa.
Other notable releases include Vertigo Releasing’s “Gassed Up,” winner of the BFI London Film Festival, Mubi’s “The Settlers,” winner at Cannes, and Tull Stories Sheffield’s documentary “Your Fat Friend.”
On the children’s front, Trafalgar Releasing will premiere “Peppa’s Cinema Party,” while Signature Entertainment will provide a wide release for “The Jungle Bunch World Tour.”
The Bollywood film “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya,” starring Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon, will also hit theaters on Friday.
Prior to the March release of “Dune 2,” Warner Bros. plans to re-release the original “Dune.” Park Circus will also re-release two classic films: Po-Chih Leong’s 1986 neo-noir comedy-drama “Ping Pong” and the 90th-anniversary 4K restoration of Frank Capra’s “It Happened One Night.”
