Lauren Boebert granted temporary restraining order against ex-husband

Rep. Lauren Boebert has been granted a temporary restraining order against her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert, after accusing him of threatening her and trespassing into their family home without permission. This recent development adds to the ongoing tension between the couple.

Lauren Boebert, known for her far-right Republican views and strong support for former President Donald Trump, changed districts in December to escape a difficult re-election campaign. She cited the family turmoil as one of the reasons for her move from Silt, Colorado to Windsor, her new district.

The temporary restraining order, issued on Friday, offers protection not only for Rep. Boebert but also for their three younger children. A hearing scheduled for Thursday will determine if the temporary order becomes permanent.

In her request, Rep. Boebert mentioned a heated argument that took place on January 6th at a restaurant, during which her ex-husband claimed she had physically harmed him. However, he later recanted his statement, and the police investigation revealed that the claim was unfounded. Authorities charged Jayson Boebert with disorderly conduct, third-degree criminal trespass, and obstructing a peace officer due to his uncooperative behavior during the incident.

Jayson Boebert expressed surprise upon learning about the restraining order. In a text message to The Associated Press, he explained that he had entered their home to clean it in preparation for the arrival of “her Granny.” He also maintained that he was the victim in the restaurant altercation and stated his desire to move on peacefully.

Furthermore, he accused his ex-wife of using the restraining order as a means to justify her decision to switch congressional districts.

One of the incidents mentioned in Rep. Boebert’s request for the restraining order involved a physical altercation between Jayson Boebert and their 18-year-old son on January 9th. As their son called the authorities, Jayson Boebert allegedly grabbed a rifle and left the premises. Court documents reveal that he was later charged with harassment, prohibited use of a weapon, and third-degree assault. It’s worth noting that Rep. Boebert was not present during this particular incident.

When asked about the January 9th incident, Jayson Boebert did not directly address the specific questions in his messages to The Associated Press.
