Nintendo, the Japan-based gaming company, has reported its latest quarterly earnings, revealing a 6% drop in year-over-year revenue but an 18% jump in net profit. The company also announced that it expects to reach 15.5 million in sales of its popular Switch video game console by the end of March, surpassing its previous forecast of 15 million units.

Impressive Performance in the October-December Quarter

During Nintendo’s fiscal third quarter, which spanned from October to December, the company achieved 598.6 billion Japanese yen in revenue. This exceeded analysts’ expectations of 568.7 billion yen, based on consensus data provided by LSEG. Additionally, Nintendo’s profit for the quarter reached 136.7 billion yen, surpassing estimates of 130.3 billion yen.

Ambitious Goals for Nintendo Switch

In efforts to expand its reach, Nintendo aims to have not just one Switch system in every home but several, or even one for every person. The company plans to achieve this by continuously releasing new offerings to keep consumers engaged with the console for longer periods. Nintendo has a lineup of exciting releases in store, including “Another Code: Recollection” in January, “Mario vs. Donkey Kong” in February, and “Princess Peach: Showtime!” in March. Furthermore, players can anticipate the arrival of the second wave of paid add-on content for “Splatoon 3” in February.

Remarkable Sales Figures for Popular Titles

Nintendo celebrated the success of its highly anticipated game, “Super Mario Bros. Wonder,” which sold an impressive 11.96 million units. The release of the “Super Mario Bros. Movie” last April greatly contributed to the success of other “Mario” related titles, such as “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe,” which sold 6.79 million copies during this period. Additionally, “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” sold 20.28 million units, and “Pikmin 4” reached 3.33 million in sales during the most recent quarter.

Nintendo continues to captivate gamers with its innovative gaming experiences on the Switch console. With the company’s determination to consistently provide new and engaging titles, it is no surprise that the Nintendo Switch has become a household name for gaming enthusiasts.
