Antiques Roadshow Guest

An emotional episode of Antiques Roadshow left one guest fighting back tears as she discovered the true value of her father’s “private” pictures of Arnold Schwarzenegger. The popular BBC show took viewers to Roundhay Park in Leeds, where people brought various items to be appraised.

Unexpected Discoveries

Stephanie, a guest on the show, initially brought 300 bodybuilder magazines from the 1940s to be valued. However, it was a different item in her collection that caught the attention of expert Clive Farahar. As they went through the magazines, Clive noticed a series of photographs featuring a young Arnold Schwarzenegger alongside Stephanie’s father.

A Fascinating History

Stephanie shared the background of these incredible pictures. She explained that her father, who was born in India and moved to Kenya and then England, had a lifelong passion for weight training. In the seventies, he fulfilled his dream of opening a gym in Harrogate, where he first met Arnold at the age of 19 in London. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s inspiration, a Leeds bodybuilder named Reg Park, made a film called “Hercules.” Stephanie’s father invited Arnold to do some seminars in Leeds in 1981, and that’s when Arnold visited their house.

Priceless Moments

Stephanie surprised Clive by showing him a picture of herself posing next to Arnold, alongside her mother and brother. She also had another photograph that Arnold had autographed for her. Clive was impressed by the collection and estimated its worth to be around £2,000. He described the photos as rare and valuable, especially because they showcased an early Arnold Schwarzenegger in a private setting.
