Samantha Morton, the acclaimed British actor, writer, and director, will be recognized for her exceptional contributions to the film industry at the upcoming EE BAFTA Film Awards. The BAFTA Fellowship is the highest honor bestowed upon an individual in the film, games, or television industry.
A Remarkable Career
After gaining recognition in theater and television, Samantha Morton’s breakthrough role came in Carine Adler’s “Under the Skin” in 1997. This performance earned her a BIFA nomination and the Boston Film Critics Award for Best Actress. She has since been nominated for an Oscar twice; once for Best Supporting Actress in Woody Allen’s “Sweet and Lowdown” in 1999, and once for Best Actress in Jim Sheridan’s “In America” in 2003.
Morton’s portrayal of child-murderer Myra Hindley in “Longford” in 2006 earned her a Golden Globe win, as well as nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award and a BAFTA Television Award. In 2009, she made her directorial debut with the television film “The Unloved,” which won the BAFTA Television Award for Best Single Drama. Her notable film credits include “Morvern Callar,” “Minority Report,” “Code 46,” “The Golden Age,” “Mister Lonely,” “Control,” “Synecdoche, New York,” “Cosmopolis,” “John Carter,” “Her,” “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” “The Whale,” and “She Said.”

The BAFTA Fellowship will be presented to Samantha Morton during the 2024 EE BAFTA Film Awards ceremony on February 18 at London’s Southbank Centre Royal Festival Hall.
