5 Marines confirmed dead after helicopter goes missing

Five Marines have tragically lost their lives after their helicopter went missing during a routine journey from Nevada to California.

A Heartbreaking Discovery

The CH-53E Super Stallion aircraft was located in Southern California on Wednesday afternoon, a day after it was reported overdue. The helicopter was en route from Creech Air Force Base, Nevada, to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California when it went missing.

A Statement of Sorrow

Later on Wednesday, the Marine Corps confirmed the devastating news of the deaths. Maj. Gen. Michael J. Borgschulte expressed his heartfelt condolences, saying, “It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that I share the loss of five Marines from 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and the ‘Flying Tigers’ while conducting a training flight last night. These pilots and crew members were serving a calling greater than self and were proud to do so. We will forever be grateful for their call to duty and selfless service.”
