An Ohio woman is facing a lengthy jail term after pleading guilty to the kidnapping of twin babies. Nalah T. Jackson, a 25-year-old from Columbus, admitted to stealing a black Honda Accord that contained five-month-old twin boys, Kason and Ky’air Thomas. The incident occurred in 2022 when the car was left running with the infants secured in the back seat.

Tragically, Ky’air passed away due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, unrelated to the kidnapping incident. A coroner’s report revealed that the cause of death was an unsafe sleep environment. The Ohio community was horrified by the crime, and a large-scale police operation involving the FBI and Ohio State Highway Patrol was launched.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Parker expressed relief that Jackson had accepted responsibility for her actions. He stated, “Today, she admitted her crime and agreed to spend 20 years in prison for her actions.” Jackson’s crime and subsequent capture received widespread attention.

On the night of December 19, 2022, Jackson took advantage of a brief moment when the boys’ mother was picking up a takeaway order from a pizza restaurant in Columbus. She drove the stolen vehicle across various locations in western Ohio before eventually arriving at Dayton International Airport. However, she returned to find the car after forgetting where she had left it.

It was during this chaotic event that Ky’air was discovered in the parking lot by a passerby, still strapped into his car seat. Meanwhile, in Indianapolis, Jackson abandoned the car outside a Papa John’s restaurant and left Kason unattended for two and a half days. However, thanks to the vigilance of two local women, Jackson was eventually apprehended.

Shyann Belmar noticed Jackson selling stolen goods outside a gas station and offered her a ride. Suspecting Jackson’s involvement in the kidnapping, Belmar, along with her cousin Mecka Curry, devised a plan to validate their suspicions and find the missing child. They managed to track Jackson’s location by pretending to phone Curry’s boyfriend while providing details to the police.

Although the police arrested Jackson, the two women were not interviewed. Unfazed, Belmar and Curry continued their search for the missing baby. They discovered a bus timetable left by Jackson in their car, which led them to search along a bus route near the university. Ultimately, they found baby Kason crying in the back seat of a black Honda Accord parked outside a local pizza restaurant.

Upon hearing the baby’s cries, one of the women immediately comforted him. Kason was then taken to a local hospital, where he received treatment for dehydration, heart abnormalities, and severe diaper rash. In recognition of their heroic efforts, Belmar and Curry were awarded gift cards for their children from the Orange Hearts for Makenzi Foundation, a nonprofit organization named after a Columbus teen who passed away in 2021.

This distressing incident serves as a reminder of the importance of always ensuring the safety of children and the need for vigilance within communities. The swift actions of Belmar and Curry played a crucial role in reuniting Kason with his family and bringing the guilty party to justice.
