Lord Sugar, once known as the grumpiest man on TV, has undergone a remarkable transformation on the latest season of The Apprentice. Instead of firing contestants, he now delivers hilarious one-liners that leave viewers in stitches. Fans have even speculated that he must have hired a gag writer to keep up with his newfound comedic prowess.

In the opening episode of this season, Lord Sugar cracked 12 jokes while meeting the candidates in the boardroom. This surpasses the total number of jokes he made in the first 11 series of the show combined. According to a TV insider, there has been a noticeable shift in Lord Sugar’s tone. He used to be intimidating and snarly towards the contestants, but now he has become more like a comedian. He effortlessly makes light-hearted comments about their business plans and personalities, even though he barely knows them. It seems that Lord Sugar is growing calmer with age.

Some of Lord Sugar’s best one-liners this season include a playful jab at pie firm boss Phil Turner: “Your grandma started making pies in the Thirties? They must be a bit stale by now.” He also took a dig at fitness coach Sam Saadet, calling him the “Del Boy of business” and asking if it’s because he’s a plonker. And let’s not forget his humorous take on wellness brand owner Dr Asif Munaf, stating that his claims of beauty, body, brains, and business should actually be referred to as “bollocks.”

Lord Sugar insists that he writes all of his jokes himself, but he does run them by an influential figure in his life: his wife Ann. While his jokes may seem spontaneous, they effortlessly roll off his tongue as the show progresses. This unscripted nature of The Apprentice adds to its charm.

It’s clear that Lord Sugar’s transformation into a comedy king has been a hit with viewers. His jokes provide much-needed light relief in the boardroom, and his comedic timing is spot-on. Perhaps a stand-up tour is in his future?
