Yasuo Nakajima and Mariona Carrera’s production company, b-mount, has recently joined forces with Chilean filmmakers Camilo Becerra and Sofía Paloma Gómez for their latest project, “Maybe It’s True What They Say About Us.” The film, which was showcased at the San Sebastián WIP Latam competition, explores generational trauma and the dark side of relationships.
A New Collaboration
This exciting collaboration brings together b-mount, Carlos Núñez, Gabriela Sandoval, Cecilia Salim, and Lucía van Gelderen. Each production company adds their unique expertise to the mix, ensuring that “Maybe It’s True What They Say About Us” will be a compelling and unforgettable cinematic experience.
A First for b-mount
For b-mount, this project marks a significant milestone in their journey. Previously known for their shooting services for international productions, they are now venturing into fiction production. Nakajima expressed his enthusiasm for the project, explaining, “The absolute trust that Gabriela Sandoval and the rest of the production team inspired in us, as well as the emotive and disturbing story of how evil can unexpectedly seep into our homes, made this project extraordinary for us.”
Expanding Horizons
Through this collaboration with b-mount, Storyboard Media, and Meikincine, “Maybe It’s True What They Say About Us” will reach a broader audience in European and Asian territories. Núñez and Sandoval, representing Storyboard Media, expressed their excitement about the co-production, stating, “This collaboration not only allows us to complete the film but also to enhance and amplify its reach.”
Unveiling the Dark Side
The film delves into the depths of generational trauma and its impact on relationships. Psychiatrist Ximena, portrayed by Aline Kuppenheim, is confronted with her estranged daughter Tamara, played by Camila Roeschmann. Tamara has recently escaped a cult plagued by allegations of human sacrifice. As the three characters navigate their fragile connections, the film explores the aftermath of parallel tragedies, drawing inspiration from real-life events involving Chile’s Colliguay Sect.
Facing the Unthinkable
The creators of “Maybe It’s True What They Say About Us,” Becerra and Paloma Gómez, aim to shed light on the incomprehensible and irrational nature of such extreme situations. They explain, “To show how something so irrational and incomprehensible can knock on the door of any family. Understanding how such an extreme situation is reached is almost impossible. All certainties prove futile when we face the monster that suddenly lives in our own house.”
