Sony Pictures Entertainment has chosen Robert Lawson as the new head of corporate communications for its parent company in Tokyo, Sony. This promotion highlights Sony’s emphasis on its entertainment divisions, which contribute more than half of the company’s revenue and profit. Lawson’s appointment also strengthens the ties between Sony’s corporate team in Japan and its US-based divisions.
Lawson, who joined Sony during the infamous cyber attack and email leaks in 2014, will begin his new role on April 1. He will report directly to Sony Group chairman and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida. However, Lawson will continue to work part-time as the head of communications for Sony Pictures Entertainment in Los Angeles for the next few months until a successor is named.
Lawson has extensive experience in managing communications for Sony Pictures Entertainment. Since becoming chief communications officer in 2015, he has successfully guided the company through various communication challenges, including executive departures, major reorganizations, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tony Vinciquerra, chief of Sony Pictures Entertainment, praised Lawson’s promotion, stating that it reflects the growing importance of the US-based entertainment companies to Sony Group Corporation’s overall business. Vinciquerra also highlighted Lawson’s strong working relationship with Sony Group Corporation leadership and Sony’s sister companies.
Lawson’s new role as head of corporate communications for Sony Group Corporation will be based in Tokyo. He will provide strategic advice and counsel to the company during a time of significant change in the industry. Lawson’s leadership in both internal and external communications has contributed to Sony Pictures Entertainment’s success over the past decade.
F5 Magazine congratulates Robert Lawson on his well-deserved promotion and wishes him continued success in his new role. For more information, you can read the official announcement here.
