Canal+ Group, the esteemed French media company, has announced a substantial increase in its stake in Viu, a popular multi-territory Asian streaming platform. The company now holds a 30% stake in Viu, and this additional investment showcases Canal+’s confidence and commitment to Viu and its team. In a statement, Canal+ Group emphasized that its investment in Viu has reached a significant milestone of $300 million. Furthermore, the company has retained the option to increase its stake to 50%. Viu, a premium streaming service catering to audiences in Asia, the Middle East, and South Africa, has experienced substantial growth. In 2023, Viu witnessed a remarkable 27% increase in revenue, driven by both its subscription and advertising streams. The number of paid subscribers surged by 10% to 13.4 million, resulting in a substantial 32% rise in subscription revenue. Additionally, Viu’s advertising revenue grew by 15%, and its subscriber base reached an impressive 62.4 million by the end of 2023.
