The timing of this release couldn’t be more perfect, as it coincides with the 200th anniversary of the first dinosaur ever named, the Megalosaurus. These stamps showcase the incredible artwork and craftsmanship that brings each creature to life, making them a must-have for any dinosaur enthusiast.

A Fossilized Celebration

David Gold, the director of external affairs and policy at Royal Mail, expressed his enthusiasm for this collaboration, saying, “It is fitting in the week of International Women’s Day that we pay tribute to Mary Anning with four images of some of the fossils she discovered.” He further added, “She was one of the greatest fossil hunters of the 19th century, making a major contribution to our understanding of the majestic creatures that roamed the Earth hundreds of millions of years ago.”

Maxine Lister, head of licensing at the Natural History Museum, also shared her excitement, stating, “We were thrilled when Royal Mail approached us to collaborate on these brilliant sets of stamps.” She continued, “It’s perfect timing too, as we have just celebrated the 200th anniversary since the naming of the first dinosaur, the Megalosaurus, which features as part of this collection.”

The stamps not only capture the essence of these ancient reptiles but also aim to inspire a sense of wonder and curiosity about the natural world. Lister added, “Our mission is to create advocates for the planet, and we hope these stunning designs inspire everyone to discover a bit more about our natural world, whether that be the creatures that lived here before us, or the pioneering figures who shaped our understanding of them today.”

Stamp Price Increase

In other news, Royal Mail has announced an impending increase in stamp prices. Starting April 2nd, the price of first-class stamps will rise by 10p to £1.35, while second-class stamps will increase by 10p to 85p. This hike comes as Royal Mail faces challenges due to higher costs and lower demand for traditional letter mail.

Even with the price increase, these limited-edition dinosaur stamps remain a worthwhile collectible for enthusiasts and stamp enthusiasts alike. So, mark your calendars and be sure to grab a set before they become extinct!
