Are you ready for more vampire romance? Lionsgate Television has confirmed that they are currently shopping around an animated series based on the popular ‘Twilight’ book series, according to a report by Variety.
During a Q&A session at the Morgan Stanley media conference, Lionsgate’s vice chairman, Michael Burns, expressed his excitement for the upcoming series. He said, “We’re going to go out with the ‘Twilight’ series, an animated series, I think there’ll be a lot of interest in that.”
Stephanie Meyer’s ‘Twilight’ book series, which was previously adapted into a successful film franchise starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, will serve as the inspiration for the animated show. The original novels include ‘Twilight,’ ‘New Moon,’ ‘Eclipse,’ and ‘Breaking Dawn,’ which were published between 2005 and 2008. Meyer also released ‘Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined’ in 2015, which swapped the genders of the main characters, Bella and Edward. In 2020, she released ‘Midnight Sun,’ a retelling of the first book from Edward’s perspective.
The ‘Twilight’ film franchise, known as ‘The Twilight Saga,’ consisted of five films released between 2008 and 2012. These movies collectively earned over $3 billion at the global box office, emphasizing the immense popularity of the vampire-themed love story.
But that’s not all! Lionsgate is also expanding another successful franchise, ‘John Wick,’ into a new television series. Burns revealed, “I think we’ll take one of our great action franchises starring Keanu Reeves, I think it’ll be a television series.” Reeves, who portrayed the iconic gun-fu action hero in four films, will continue his involvement in the ‘John Wick’ universe.
The upcoming ‘John Wick’ show follows the recent premiere of ‘The Continental,’ a prequel miniseries that debuted on Peacock in September 2023.
Exciting times lie ahead for fans of both ‘Twilight’ and ‘John Wick’ as Lionsgate Television delves into developing these animated and action-packed series.
