President Joe Biden is set to deliver his third State of the Union address tonight, but he was running a few minutes late. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators blocked intersections between the White House and the Capitol, causing a delay in Biden’s arrival. Former President Donald Trump, who had promised to provide a “play-by-play” of the speech, took advantage of the situation to criticize Biden’s tardiness on Truth Social.
In a post on the platform, Trump wrote, “The President is very substantially late. Not a good start, but let’s give him the benefit of the doubt.” Trump sarcastically remarked that Biden had important things to do, but he was just getting into the car. Trump suggested that Biden would have to drive very quickly, stating, “You just don’t want to be late to the State of the Union. They will need Mario Andretti to be at the wheel of the Limo,” referring to the former Formula 1 racer.
Despite the delay, the 2024 State of the Union address is now airing on all major networks. You can also watch it online via the White House’s livestream here.
