Williams described Glover as a “delightful young man” who is incredibly talented. However, when it comes to the character of Lando Calrissian, Williams made it clear that there is only one Lando. After all, Williams created the iconic character and believes that his portrayal is unmatched.
Words of Advice
When Glover took on the role of a young Lando in the 2018 “Star Wars” prequel film “Solo,” Williams had a chance to meet him and offered some advice. He simply told Glover to be charming, knowing that those two words would be enough to guide him in bringing the character to life.
A New Generation
Glover’s involvement in the “Star Wars” universe didn’t end with “Solo.” A limited series focused on Lando Calrissian was initially announced for Disney+, with “Dear White People” creator Justin Simien attached to the project. However, news broke in July 2023 that Donald and Stephen Glover would take over as the writers, and the project shifted into development as a movie.
Williams recognizes that Glover is part of a new generation and believes that he will bring his own creativity to the character. He acknowledges Glover’s talent and imagination, leaving it up to him to decide how to shape Lando Calrissian for the 21st century.
The Future of Lando
As for his potential return to the “Star Wars” franchise, Williams playfully responded that he would need to be paid a significant amount of money to put Lando’s cape back on. While his answer may leave fans wondering if they will see him onscreen as Lando once more, Williams has undoubtedly left an indelible mark on the character.
