The struggle of being “too pretty”

Mexican actress Eiza González has recently shared her experience of facing discrimination in the film industry due to her stunning good looks. In an interview with InStyle magazine, the 34-year-old brunette beauty revealed that being “too pretty” has cost her opportunities and resulted in her missing out on roles.

González pointed out that there is a different standard for Latinas in the industry. She expressed her frustration, saying, “I remember being told for many projects: ‘She’s too pretty for the role. She’s too hot for the role.’ But then I’d just think, What about Margot Robbie? She’s the hottest, most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen in my life!”

The constant rejection took a toll on González, leading her to question her identity and even consider drastic measures like shaving her head to make herself less attractive. She found herself grappling with conflicting thoughts – should she dress more conservatively or embrace her natural beauty?

The need for greater representation

Beyond her personal struggles, González also addressed the lack of representation for Latinas in the fashion and beauty industry. She believes that there is a narrow perception of beauty, and campaigns often exclude women like her. In a Vogue interview, she explained, “I grew up watching all these beauty campaigns in the 90s, and I wouldn’t see a lot of Mexican women in them, especially in these large-scale brands.”

González emphasized the significance of inclusive campaigns, stating that seeing people who resemble her in these advertisements would make many brown and Latina girls feel seen and included.

Eiza González’s impressive career

Despite the challenges she has faced, González has managed to carve out a successful career in Hollywood. She has appeared in movies such as “Baby Driver,” “Dusk Till Dawn,” and “Godzilla vs. Kong.” Her talent and versatility have earned her roles alongside renowned actors like Rosamund Pike and Jake Gyllenhaal.
